03 Nov Penreach Simplify Series popular amongst Maths and Science teachers in the province
One thing is clear – maths and science teachers of Mpumalanga have a thirst for knowledge.
At the beginning of 2016, and as a thought leader in education and catalyst for improving the quality of education, Penreach introduced the Penreach Sciences Seminar Series with a twofold goal in mind: To assist teachers specifically, and to help move South Africa forward.
Starting with 92 teachers who attended the very first seminar in April, there was no doubt that teachers were desperate to learn more.
In October this number had grown to 143 and Penreach realised their recipe was working: assist teachers by addressing the teaching and learning difficulties which they encounter on a daily basis by means of various activities carefully mixed together to enhance their pedagogical content knowledge.
“The series, consisting of four seminars – two focussing on maths and two on science, seek to demystify so-called maths and science “monsters”, Mr Jerry Machikopa, Penreach Maths Field Advisor, explained.
“Not only do we focus on how practical experiments and fun activities and scientific investigations could be used to enhance teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge, but we also invite dynamic speakers and high calibre facilitators to deliver quality presentations.”
Machikopa invited all interested science and maths teachers – from foundation phase to high school – to attend these seminars in 2017.
