Penreach brings learn to swim pool to Penryn College campus

As part of the vision of providing all children with access to opportunities, Penreach works closely with Penryn Preparatory. This includes the sharing of facilities, like the all-new Learn to Swim pool on the Penryn campus. This pool forms part of the educational centre of excellence in early childhood development that is hosted on campus, benefitting teachers and children from all backgrounds and communities.

Penryn Preparatory shares their delight in the new Learn to Swim Pool situated at the John Lees Foundation Phase building. Head of Penryn Preparatory, Grant Williams, says “The new pool will ensure that every scholar at Penryn is taught to swim from the earliest age”.

The Learn to Swim Pool will also allow Penreach the opportunity to train educators from the community in the ‘Learn to Swim’ programme. This initiative will allow the whole community to take a great leap forward in ensuring water safety for all children. “Water safety is an important aspect of a childs early education and development, hence the inclusion of this pool as part of the early childhood development centre of excellence at Penryn”,  explains Susanna Oosthuizen, Penryn Director of Communication.

Sally Wakefield, Deputy Head; Penryn Foundation Phase, shares the positive response that the children have had to the installation of the new pool, in both school lessons and private lessons. Penryn Foundation Phase scholars have exclaimed “I can stand”, with great excitement! This makes the whole experience of learning to swim much less daunting for new swimmers, she explains.

The Learn to Swim Pool addresses the needs of a beginner swimmer, it is safe, the gate is always locked when not in use and creates an environment where there is confidence and enjoyment through progressive learning.
